Memberships, packages, and gift cards: choosing the right repeat-revenue offer
Memberships create predictable recurring revenue, packages encourage a planned series of visits, and gift cards bring new people into the salon. They solve different business problems and should not be presented as interchangeable.
Start with the service cadence and margin. A package works well when the service repeats a known number of times; a membership works when clients value an ongoing benefit; a gift card works when the buyer and recipient are different people.
Make balances visible to both staff and clients. Every redemption should be atomic, auditable, and clear about remaining uses, expiry, refunds, and eligible services.
Measure redemption, repeat visits, margin after discounts, and breakage. A promotion that increases sales but consumes prime-time capacity can still be unprofitable.
